Patrick Verona
Patrick starts off in the film as a rebellious teenager, who is quite a shady guy, and quite intimidating to the other students. No-one really knows about his past, and there are suspicions at the start of the year that he had spent the previous year in jail. There are also rumours that he ate a raw duck, feathers and all. He smokes cigarettes in class, and he has a storng Australian accent.
Joey approaches him one day, saying he’ll pay him money to go out with Kat, so that he can date her younger sister, Bianca. He then agrees, and slowly begins to fall in love with her. When Patrick and Kat are together we start to see his soft side, and he changes. He stops smoking, and starts to not really care about his "bad-boy" image. He and her then discuss all the rumours about each other and tell each other the truth to the stories. Neither of them are as "bad" as everybody thinks.
At the end of the film he tries to leave the agreement about taking Kat to the prom, but Joey steps up the price. Reluctantly, Patrick agrees. At the prom Kat discovers the truth, and leaves him.
He is hurt deep down. In the class the next day Kat reads her poem on how much she loves him. This makes Patrick realise what he has done, and he feels bad. He then buys her a guitar with the money he was paid to go out with her, and he tells her how much she means to him. They get together again and become a couple.
